Gather students in a circle. Explain that today we're going to be reading detectives and review all the awesome reading skills we've learned this year.

2Teaching (10 min)

Review five key comprehension strategies using examples and student interactions

  • Main Idea: What is the BIG message of the story?
  • Inference: Using clues to understand what's not directly said
  • Summary: Telling the most important parts of a story briefly
  • Text Structure: How a story is organized
  • Author's Purpose: Why the author wrote the story
