Lesson Plan

1Opening (5 min)

Gather students in a circle and ask them to share one kind thing they did for someone today. Explain that today we'll learn how characters show who they really are through their actions.

💭 Review Question: Can you tell me about a character in a story who was kind?
2Teaching (8 min)

When we read stories, characters show us who they are by what they do and say. Just like in real life, actions help us understand a person's character.

📌 Key Talking Points:
  • Characters have different personality traits
  • Actions and words reveal character
  • Good characters often help others
  • We can learn from how characters respond to challenges
💬 Discussion Questions:
  • What did the main character do that showed they were brave?
  • How did the character's actions help others?
  • Can you find a sentence that shows what the character was feeling?
3Activity: Character Trait Detective (8 min)
hands-on

Students will read a short story and identify character traits by circling evidence on their graphic organizer.

📝 Instructions:
  1. Read story together
  2. Identify main character's actions
  3. Circle traits that match those actions
  4. Draw a small picture showing the trait
🔄 Variations:

Simpler: Teacher helps identify traits

Challenge: Students find multiple traits and provide quotes

4Closing (4 min)

Reflect on how characters show their true selves through actions

📝 Review Questions:
  • What trait did we learn about today?
  • How can we show good character like our story's hero?
🙏 Prayer:

Dear Jesus, help us to have kind hearts and show love through our actions, just like the characters in our stories.
