Gather students in a circle and explain that today we're going to be 'Detail Detectives' who look closely at how details help us understand a story's big idea.
Details are like little clues that help us understand the main idea of a story. They answer questions like 'Who?' 'What?' 'Where?' and 'Why?'
Students will create a graphic organizer with a main idea card and colored detail cards
Simpler: Teacher provides pre-written main idea and helps with details
Challenge: Students create their own story and details
Review what we learned about details and main ideas
Dear Jesus, thank you for helping us learn and understand. Help us to be good listeners and learners.
Coming up: Tomorrow we'll continue being Detail Detectives with longer stories!
“Don't withhold good from those to whom it is due, when it is in the power of your hand to do it.”
— Proverbs 3:27 (WEB)🎯 Activity: Hand motions: 'Don't withhold' (cross arms), 'do good' (open arms wide)
