Gather students in a circle and explain that today we'll learn about finding the 'big idea' in a story - just like finding the most important message in God's Word.
Main idea is like the heart of a story - it tells us what the whole story is mostly about. Just like how Jesus shared important messages in His parables, good writers have one big idea they want to share.
Students will work in pairs to identify the main idea of a short picture book, using sticky notes to mark key details.
