  • Story map from previous lesson
  • Writing paper
  • Pencils
  • Colored pencils

Lesson Plan

1Opening (5 min)

Remind students about story maps and how they help organize writing. Show example of a completed story map.

💭 Review Question: Who can tell me what we did with our story map yesterday?
2Teaching (8 min)

Today we will turn our story map into a real story! Remember to use the parts of your map - beginning, middle, and end.

📌 Key Talking Points:
  • Start at the beginning of your story
  • Use 'first', 'next', 'then' to help order events
  • Include details from your story map
💬 Discussion Questions:
  • What makes a good story interesting?
  • How do we show what happened in order?
3Activity: Story Draft Adventure (10 min)

Students will write their first draft using their story map as a guide

📝 Instructions:
  1. Take out your story map
  2. Start writing your story on clean paper
  3. Use pencil so you can make changes
  4. Try to write at least 3-4 sentences
🔄 Variations:

Simpler: Draw pictures to show story events if writing is difficult

Challenge: Add dialogue or more descriptive words

4Closing (2 min)

Share one sentence from your story with a friend
