Lesson Plan

1Opening (5 min)

Gather students in a circle. Explain that today we'll explore how God gives us words to communicate and create meaning.

💭 Review Question: Can you think of a time when words helped you share something important?
2Teaching (8 min)

Introduce the parts of a sentence using colorful visual aids. Demonstrate how a subject (who or what) and a predicate (what they do) work together to make a complete thought.

📌 Key Talking Points:
  • Every sentence needs a subject
  • The predicate tells us what the subject is doing
  • Sentences start with a capital letter
  • Sentences end with punctuation
💬 Discussion Questions:
  • How do words help us understand each other?
  • Why do you think God gave us the ability to use words?
  • How can we use our words to show love?
3Activity: Sentence Building Game (10 min)
hands-on

Students create sentences about God's creation using color-coded cards for subjects and predicates.

📝 Instructions:
  1. Divide into pairs
  2. Use blue cards for subjects, yellow cards for predicates
  3. Create at least 3 complete sentences about creation
  4. Write sentences on paper
  5. Share sentences with the class
🔄 Variations:

Simpler: Provide pre-written subject and predicate cards

Challenge: Add descriptive adjective cards to make more complex sentences

4Closing (2 min)

Recap how God gave us words as a beautiful gift to communicate and understand each other.

📝 Review Questions:
  • What makes a complete sentence?
  • How can we use our words to glorify God?
🙏 Prayer:

Dear God, thank you for the gift of words. Help us use them to love and encourage others.

Coming up: Tomorrow we'll learn about describing words that help us see God's wonderful creation!
