Exploring US Regions: Midwest
Identify the five Great Lakes
Understand the importance of water resources
Recognize God's provision in nature
“God called the dry land Earth, and the gathering together of the waters he called Seas. God saw that it was good.”
— Genesis 1:10 (WEB)God created water and saw that it was good, just like the Great Lakes He provided for people to use
Gather students and show a map of the Midwest. Ask them what they know about large bodies of water. Explain that today we'll learn about the Great Lakes.
The Great Lakes are five huge freshwater lakes in the Midwest: Huron, Ontario, Michigan, Erie, and Superior. They are so big that they look like small seas! These lakes are important for transportation, fishing, and providing water for millions of people.
Create a collage of the Great Lakes using blue paper and white paper to represent water and land
Simpler: Trace pre-drawn lake outlines
Challenge: Add more details about lake wildlife and geography
Review what we learned about the Great Lakes and thank God for His wonderful creation
Dear God, thank You for creating these amazing lakes and providing water for all living things. Help us appreciate Your wonderful creation.
Coming up: Tomorrow we'll learn about the farms and prairies of the Midwest!
“He sends the springs into the valleys. They run among the mountains.”
— Psalm 104:10 (WEB)🎯 Activity: Water Drop Hop - Children jump when saying each word of the verse
The Great Lakes form the largest group of freshwater lakes on Earth, covering approximately 94,250 square miles
Children might have difficulty remembering all five lake names
Understanding of basic lake geography and excitement about natural wonders
Great job completing today's lesson!
