2Teaching (12 min)

Today we'll explore how artists create depth and interest by layering different materials and textures.

  • We can create texture with different art materials
  • Layering means putting one material on top of another
💬 Discussion Questions:
  • What textures can you feel around you right now?
  • How do different materials look when they're layered?
3Activity: Wonderfully Layered Artwork (14 min)
hands-on project

Create a mixed media artwork exploring different textures and layers

📝 Instructions:
  1. First, use crayons to make texture rubbings on your paper
  2. Next, paint watercolors over the crayon areas
