Recognize how artists create depth in pictures
“In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth.”
— Genesis 1:1 (WEB)God is the ultimate creator who designed depth and space in the world around us
Gather students and show several landscape photographs. Ask them to look closely at where things are placed in the picture.
Explain how artists create pictures with three main areas: foreground (closest to viewer), middle ground (in the middle), and background (farthest away).
Create a simple landscape showing three layers using cut paper
Simpler: Use pre-cut shapes for younger artists
Challenge: Add details and texture to each layer
Share artwork and discuss how each picture shows different layers
Dear God, thank you for creating a beautiful world with so many amazing details. Help us see the wonder in your creation.
Coming up: Tomorrow we'll learn how size helps show distance in pictures!
“How many are your works, Yahweh! In wisdom have you made them all. The earth is full of your creatures.”
— Psalm 104:24 (WEB)🎯 Activity: Draw a picture showing God's creation with different layers
