📦 Materials Needed

  • Drawing paper
  • Colored pencils
  • Markers
  • Clipboard or hard surface for drawing

Lesson Plan

1Opening (5 min)

Today's BibleMouse lesson will explore how we can tell stories through art! Remember how we learned that art communicates messages?

💭 Review Question: What did we learn about how art can share feelings in our last lesson?
2Teaching (10 min)

Visual storytelling is like creating a picture book without words. We'll learn how to show a story's beginning, middle, and end.

📌 Key Talking Points:
  • Artists use sequence to tell stories
  • Each picture can show a different moment
  • Use details to help viewers understand the story
💬 Discussion Questions:
  • What Bible story might be fun to draw?
  • How can we show what happens first, next, and last?
3Activity: Story Sequence Art Project (15 min)
planning and sketching

Create a three-panel story about a Bible event or personal experience

📝 Instructions:
  1. Fold your paper into three sections
  2. Choose a story (like Daniel in the lion's den)
  3. Sketch the beginning of the story in first panel
  4. Draw the middle action in second panel
  5. Complete the story's ending in final panel
🔄 Variations:

Simpler: Draw two panels instead of three

Challenge: Add dialog or speech bubbles to panels

4Closing (5 min)

Share your story art and explain what's happening in each panel

📝 Review Questions:
  • What story did you choose?
  • How did you show what happens in your pictures?

Coming up: Tomorrow we'll explore how art can have a special purpose to help others

Teaching Notes

📚 Background:

Young children often think literally, so help them understand visual storytelling

💡 Teaching Tips:
  • Encourage creativity over perfect drawing
  • Ask open-ended questions about their artwork
  • Display finished artwork to celebrate their storytelling
🤔 Common Struggles:

Children might get frustrated if they can't draw realistically

👀 Signs of Understanding:

Ability to show sequence and basic narrative elements

Extension Activities

  • Use BibleMouse Printables Library for additional storytelling art templates
  • Create a mini-book of their three-panel story
