Learning Objectives

1

Understand that stronger forces create more movement

2

Compare different push and pull strengths

3

Observe how force affects object motion

Proverbs 3:5

Trust in Yahweh with all your heart, and don't lean on your own understanding.

Proverbs 3:5 (WEB)

Just as different forces create different movements, we trust God's power to guide us in life

📦 Materials Needed

  • Toy cars
  • Measuring tape
  • Smooth floor or table surface
  • Soft cushion
  • Notebook for recording
  • Pencil

Lesson Plan

1Opening (5 min)

Gather students and discuss how pushing and pulling can move things differently. Demonstrate gentle and strong pushes with a toy car.

💭 Review Question: What happens when you push something softly? What happens when you push harder?
2Teaching (8 min)

Explain that the strength of a push or pull changes how an object moves. More force means more movement.

📌 Key Talking Points:
  • Soft pushes move things a short distance
  • Strong pushes move things farther
  • Force is like energy that makes things go
💬 Discussion Questions:
  • Can you think of times you use different strengths to move things?
  • What happens when you gently or strongly push a swing?
3Activity: Force Strength Challenge (10 min)
experiment

Students test how different push strengths move a toy car across various surfaces

📝 Instructions:
  1. Mark a start line
  2. Push car with soft touch, measure distance
  3. Push car with medium strength, measure distance
  4. Push car with strong push, measure distance
  5. Record distances in notebook
🔄 Variations:

Simpler: Measure with child's hand spans

Challenge: Calculate and graph average distances

4Closing (2 min)

Review what we learned about force strength

📝 Review Questions:
  • What happened when you pushed softly?
  • What happened when you pushed harder?
🙏 Prayer:

Dear God, thank you for teaching us about your amazing world of movement and energy.

Coming up: Tomorrow we'll explore how ramps change how things move!

Psalm 18:2

Yahweh is my rock, my fortress, and my deliverer; my God, my strength, in whom I will trust; my shield, and the horn of my salvation, my high tower.

Psalm 18:2 (WEB)

🎯 Activity: Strength Pose - Act out strong poses while saying verse

Teaching Notes

📚 Background:

Children are learning basic physics concepts about force and motion

💡 Teaching Tips:
  • Encourage careful observation
  • Let children experiment safely
  • Ask open-ended questions
🤔 Common Struggles:

Some children might have difficulty measuring consistently

👀 Signs of Understanding:

Understanding that stronger pushes create more movement

Extension Activities

  • Try experiment with different objects
  • Explore pushing on different surfaces
  • Draw pictures of car movements
