Water Investigations
Observe how different substances interact with water
Understand that some things dissolve and some do not
Practice careful scientific observation
“The earth was formless and empty. Darkness was on the surface of the deep. God's Spirit was hovering over the surface of the waters.”
— Genesis 1:2 (WEB)God created water and gave it special properties that help life on Earth
Gather students and ask them to think about different things they've seen mixed with water - like juice, salt in cooking, or tea.
Today we'll explore how different things mix with water. Some things disappear (dissolve) and some float on top or stay separate.
Students will carefully add and mix different substances into water, observing what happens
Simpler: Adult helps with pouring and mixing
Challenge: Students predict what will happen before mixing
Discuss observations and marvel at how God created water to interact with different substances
Dear God, thank you for creating water and making it so wonderful and unique. Help us to appreciate the amazing world you designed.
Coming up: Next week, we'll learn more about how water moves and changes!
“O Yahweh, how many are your works! In wisdom have you made them all. The earth is full of your riches.”
— Psalm 104:24 (WEB)🎯 Activity: Water Drop Verse - write each word of the verse on a water droplet-shaped paper
Children are learning basic scientific observation skills and properties of mixtures
Children might get excited and mix things too quickly
Careful watching, curiosity about changes
