Learning Objectives

1

Analyze investigation results

2

Explain why predictions were correct or incorrect

3

Practice scientific reasoning skills

Proverbs 2:6

For Yahweh gives wisdom. Out of his mouth comes knowledge and understanding.

Proverbs 2:6 (WEB)

God gives us wisdom to understand the world around us through careful observation and thinking

📦 Materials Needed

  • Science journals
  • Pencils
  • Previous investigation materials
  • Colored markers

Lesson Plan

1Opening (5 min)

Gather students in a circle and review previous scientific investigation. Ask students to share what they remember about their experiment.

💭 Review Question: What did we try to discover in our last experiment?
2Teaching (8 min)

Today we'll learn how scientists draw conclusions by looking carefully at what happened during our investigation.

📌 Key Talking Points:
  • Good scientists look closely at their results
  • It's okay if our first guess wasn't exactly right
  • We learn by carefully thinking about what we observed
💬 Discussion Questions:
  • What did you notice during our experiment?
  • Was your first guess about what might happen correct?
  • What surprised you about the results?
3Activity: Conclusion Creators (8 min)
hands-on

Students will draw and write in their science journals about their investigation results

📝 Instructions:
  1. Draw a picture of what actually happened
  2. Write one sentence about what you learned
  3. Circle whether your first guess was right or wrong
🔄 Variations:

Simpler: Teacher helps students write their sentences

Challenge: Students explain why their first guess was different from the results

4Closing (4 min)

Celebrate how we are learning to think like scientists God created us to be!

📝 Review Questions:
  • What did we learn today?
  • How can we be good scientists?
  • What was the most interesting thing you discovered?
🙏 Prayer:

Dear God, thank you for giving us curious minds to explore and understand Your wonderful world.

Coming up: Next week, we'll continue exploring how scientists ask great questions!

Proverbs 2:6

For Yahweh gives wisdom. Out of his mouth comes knowledge and understanding.

Proverbs 2:6 (WEB)

🎯 Activity: Create a hand motion where students point to their head (wisdom) and then outward (understanding)

Teaching Notes

📚 Background:

First graders are learning fundamental scientific reasoning skills

💡 Teaching Tips:
  • Encourage curiosity
  • Validate all observations
  • Help children understand that being wrong is part of learning
🤔 Common Struggles:

Children might feel disappointed if their first guess wasn't correct

👀 Signs of Understanding:

Ability to describe what they observed, willingness to reconsider initial ideas

Extension Activities

  • Create a family science observation journal
  • Explore simple at-home experiments together
  • Watch age-appropriate science videos about discovery
