Understand that seeds contain baby plants and food for growth

3

Appreciate God's amazing design in seed creation

Mark 4:26-27

He said, 'The Kingdom of God is like a man who scatters seed on the ground, and sleeps and rises night and day, and the seed sprouts and grows, though he does not know how.'

Mark 4:26-27 (WEB)

Demonstrates God's mysterious power of growth and creation within seeds

📦 Materials Needed

  • Various seeds (beans, sunflower, corn, pumpkin)
  • Magnifying glasses
  • Paper towels
  • Plastic bags
  • Tape
  • BibleMouse Science Observation Journal

Lesson Plan

1Opening (5 min)

Welcome to today's BibleMouse science adventure! Last time we learned how to plant seeds, now we'll explore what's happening inside them.

💭 Review Question: What did we learn about planting seeds yesterday?
2Teaching (10 min)

Seeds are amazing little packages God designed to create new plants. Each seed has everything a baby plant needs to start growing!

📌 Key Talking Points:
  • Seeds come in different shapes and sizes
  • Inside every seed is a tiny baby plant called an embryo
  • Seeds store food to help the plant start growing
💬 Discussion Questions:
  • What shapes of seeds have you seen?
  • How do you think God helps seeds grow?
3Activity: Seed Detective Investigation (12 min)
exploration

Students will use magnifying glasses to examine different seeds and record observations in their BibleMouse Science Observation Journal

📝 Instructions:
  1. Put on your 'science detective' hat
  2. Use magnifying glass to look closely at different seeds
  3. Draw what you see in your journal
  4. Compare seed sizes and shapes
🔄 Variations:

Simpler: Help child trace seed outlines

Challenge: Measure seeds and create a size comparison chart

4Closing (3 min)

Review seed discoveries and thank God for His incredible design

📝 Review Questions:
  • What surprised you about seeds today?
  • What did you learn about how God makes plants grow?

Coming up: Tomorrow we'll learn how seeds travel to new places!

Teaching Notes

📚 Background:

Seeds contain an embryo (baby plant) and endosperm (food storage) that enable plant growth

💡 Teaching Tips:
  • Use gentle, curious language about God's creation
  • Encourage careful handling of seeds
  • Let child lead exploration
🤔 Common Struggles:

Children might get frustrated if seeds look similar

👀 Signs of Understanding:

Curiosity, careful observation, excitement about discovery

Extension Activities

  • Create a seed collection in clear bags
  • Plant seeds from today's investigation
  • Read BibleMouse storybook about plant growth
