Lesson Plan

1Opening (5 min)

Gather students in a circle. Explain today's 'Treasure Hunt' game where we'll discover special word treasures by listening to vowel sounds.

2Teaching (8 min)

Introduce short vowel sounds using simple illustrations. Demonstrate how changing the middle vowel changes the word's meaning.

Students will sort CVC words into five treasure chests, one for each short vowel sound.

  1. Spread out CVC word cards face up
  2. Give each student a vowel sorting mat
  3. Students pick a word and identify its vowel sound
  4. Place the word in the matching treasure chest
  5. Earn a sticker for each correctly sorted word
