“Praise him with the sound of the trumpet. Praise him with the psaltery and harp! Praise him with tambourine and dancing. Praise him with stringed instruments and pipes!”
— Psalm 150:3-5 (WEB)Demonstrates God's joy in musical creativity and praise
Recap our Orff instrument ensemble from yesterday. Remind students how different instruments can work together to create beautiful music.
Today, we'll create our very own musical piece using the Orff instruments we've been practicing.
Students will work in small groups to compose a 2-minute musical piece that tells a simple story, inspired by Psalm 150's celebration of music.
Simpler: Use pre-determined rhythm patterns
Challenge: Add vocal elements or more complex rhythms
Share performances and celebrate musical creativity
Coming up: Tomorrow we'll explore music from different cultures around the world!
First-grade students are developing collaborative skills and musical creativity
Children may feel shy about performing or struggle to stay focused
