2

Demonstrate ability to change vocal volume gradually

3

Recognize how music can express different emotions

Psalm 100:1

Make a joyful noise to Yahweh, all you lands!

Psalm 100:1 (WEB)

Demonstrates how we can use different volumes to praise God

📦 Materials Needed

  • BibleMouse dynamic cards
  • Percussion instrument (optional)
  • World English Bible
  • Quiet space for singing

Lesson Plan

1Opening (3 min)

Remind students about yesterday's dynamic conducting lesson and how musicians use volume to tell stories

💭 Review Question: Can you remember how we used our hands to show loud and soft music yesterday?
2Teaching (8 min)

Introduce crescendo (getting louder) and decrescendo (getting softer)

📌 Key Talking Points:
  • Crescendo means music gets louder, like a whisper growing into a shout
  • Decrescendo means music gets softer, like a loud sound fading away
  • Musicians use these to help tell a story with sound
💬 Discussion Questions:
  • What sounds in nature get louder or softer?
  • How might we use different volumes when we pray or sing?
3Activity: Praise Wave Sound Experiment (10 min)
vocal exercise

Practice crescendo and decrescendo while singing praise

📝 Instructions:
  1. Start singing Psalm 100:1 very softly
  2. Gradually increase volume like a rising wave
  3. Then slowly decrease volume back to a whisper
  4. Repeat 3-4 times
🔄 Variations:

Simpler: Use hand motions to show volume changes

Challenge: Add percussion to accompany singing

4Closing (3 min)

Review what we learned about musical dynamics

📝 Review Questions:
  • What does crescendo mean?
  • How can we use different volumes when we praise God?

Coming up: Tomorrow we'll explore how different instruments can tell stories with sound
