Lesson Plan

1Opening (3 min)

Quickly review yesterday's dance movements and remind children that music can be structured like a story with different parts

💭 Review Question: What movements did we use yesterday when dancing?
2Teaching (8 min)

Introduce musical form as different 'sections' of a song, like chapters in a book

📌 Key Talking Points:
  • Music can have different sections called A and B
  • When sections repeat, we call it ABA form
  • Different sections can have different movements
💬 Discussion Questions:
  • Can you hear when the music changes?
  • How might your body move differently in each section?
3Activity: Musical Sections Dance (10 min)
movement

Children create different movements for A and B sections of a simple song

📝 Instructions:
  1. Listen to the music carefully
  2. When section A plays, do slow, flowing movements
  3. When section B plays, do bouncy, quick movements
  4. Repeat the pattern
🔄 Variations:

Simpler: Use colored scarves to help distinguish sections

Challenge: Create more complex movement patterns

4Closing (3 min)

Briefly discuss how different movements can tell a story in music

📝 Review Questions:
  • What were our A section movements?
  • What were our B section movements?

Coming up: Tomorrow we'll perform our musical movements for family!
