Lesson Plan

1Opening (5 min)

Gather around and look at nature picture books. Discuss the amazing variety of God's creation.

💭 Review Question: What different kinds of animals or plants have you seen recently?
2Teaching (10 min)

Introduce graphing as a way to show how many of different things exist in God's world

📌 Key Talking Points:

  • We can count and organize things to understand creation better
  • Graphs help us see information clearly
💬 Discussion Questions:
  • How many different types of birds can you name?
  • What colors of flowers have you seen?
3Activity: Creation Variety Graph (12 min)
project

Create a bar graph showing different types of animals or flowers

📝 Instructions:
  1. Choose one type of creation to graph (birds, flowers, trees)
  2. Count how many of each type or color you see
  3. Draw a bar graph showing your findings
  4. Color each bar a different color
  5. Write the name of each type at the bottom of the graph
🔄 Variations:

Simpler: Use pre-drawn graph with fewer categories

Challenge: Add a second graph and compare two different types of creation

4Closing (3 min)

Share graphs and discuss what we learned about God's creative design

📝 Review Questions:
  • What surprised you about the variety you found?
  • How does this graph show God's amazing creativity?

Coming up: Tomorrow we'll review counting and place value
