Lesson Plan

1Opening (5 min)

Gather students in a circle. Explain that today we'll learn how sentences are like little stories with two important parts.

💭 Review Question: What makes a good story?
2Teaching (8 min)

Every sentence needs two main parts: a subject (who or what) and a predicate (what they do). Like a team, these parts work together to tell us something!

📌 Key Talking Points:
  • Subject tells us WHO or WHAT
  • Predicate tells us WHAT HAPPENS
  • Both parts are needed to make a complete sentence
💬 Discussion Questions:
  • Can you find the subject in this sentence?
  • What is happening in this sentence?
  • How do we know a sentence is complete?
3Activity: Sentence Detective Game (8 min)
hands-on

Students will use puzzle pieces to match subjects and predicates, creating complete sentences.

📝 Instructions:
  1. Split into pairs
  2. Each pair gets sentence puzzle pieces
  3. Match subjects with predicates
  4. Read completed sentences aloud
  5. Check if each sentence makes sense
🔄 Variations:

Simpler: Teacher helps match pieces

Challenge: Students create their own puzzle pieces

4Closing (4 min)

Recap what we learned about sentence parts

📝 Review Questions:
  • What are the two parts of a sentence?
  • Why do we need both parts?
🙏 Prayer:

Dear Jesus, help us use our words to tell good stories and share Your love.

Coming up: Tomorrow we'll build more sentences like little bridges of words!
