Gather students in a circle. Explain that today we'll learn how the letter R can change the sound of vowels.

💭 Review Question: Can you think of any words that have 'ar' in them?

When R comes after a vowel, it makes the vowel sound different. For 'AR', the A makes a special sound like in 'car' or 'star'.

📌 Key Talking Points:
  • R is like a 'bossy' letter that changes vowel sounds
  • AR says its own special sound
  • Examples include: car, star, park, farm
💬 Discussion Questions:
  • What other 'ar' words can you think of?
  • Can you act out an 'ar' word?
3Activity: AR Word Building (8 min)
