  • World map
  • Scissors
  • Coloring materials

Lesson Plan

1Opening (5 min)

Gather children and ask about flying. What do they know about airplanes? Have they ever been in one?

💭 Review Question: What makes something able to fly?
2Teaching (10 min)

Tell the story of the Wright Brothers and their first airplane flight in 1903. Explain how they worked together and kept trying even when things didn't work.

📌 Key Talking Points:
  • Two brothers named Orville and Wilbur Wright
  • First successful airplane flight in Kitty Hawk, North Carolina
  • Planes help people travel long distances quickly
  • God gave humans the ability to be creative and solve problems
💬 Discussion Questions:
  • How might airplanes help people?
  • Why is it important to not give up when trying something new?
3Activity: Paper Airplane Adventure (7 min)
hands-on

Children will make and fly simple paper airplanes, learning basic aerodynamics

📝 Instructions:
  1. Fold paper into a simple airplane
  2. Decorate the airplane
  3. Practice throwing and seeing how far it goes
  4. Discuss what makes the plane fly
🔄 Variations:

Simpler: Pre-fold airplanes for younger children

Challenge: Try different airplane designs and compare flight distances

4Closing (3 min)

Remind children that God gives us amazing abilities to create and explore

📝 Review Questions:
  • Who invented the first airplane?
  • What makes an airplane fly?
  • How can we use our creativity like the Wright Brothers?
🙏 Prayer:

Dear God, thank you for giving us wonderful minds to explore and create. Help us use our gifts to serve others and honor You.

Coming up: Tomorrow we'll look at how transportation has changed over time!

Psalm 19:1
