  • Battery-powered flashlight
  • Picture of old oil lamp
  • Picture of modern light bulb
  • Drawing paper

Lesson Plan

1Opening (5 min)

Gather children and show them a candle. Ask them to imagine what nighttime was like before electricity. Discuss how dark it would get.

Explain how people used different light sources throughout history: candles, oil lamps, gas lights, and finally electric lights.
