Lesson Plan

1Opening (5 min)

Gather students in a circle and show images of the same community from different time periods. Ask them what they notice is different.

💭 Review Question: What looks different about our town now compared to a long time ago?
2Teaching (10 min)

Communities change because people have new needs, new inventions help them live differently, and families grow and move.

📌 Key Talking Points:
  • More people means we need more buildings
  • New machines help us work and travel
  • Families want different things as time passes
💬 Discussion Questions:
  • Why might a small town become a bigger city?
  • How do new inventions help people?
  • What changes have you seen in our community?
3Activity: Community Change Poster (7 min)
hands-on

Create a poster showing how communities change, drawing pictures of old and new ways of doing things.

📝 Instructions:
  1. Fold poster paper in half
  2. Draw 'long ago' on one side
  3. Draw 'today' on other side
  4. Use photos and drawings to show changes
🔄 Variations:

Simpler: Use pre-cut pictures to paste

Challenge: Add written descriptions of changes

4Closing (3 min)

Review how God loves us through all changes, just like communities change but His love stays the same

📝 Review Questions:
  • What did you learn about community changes?
  • Can changes be good?
  • Who always stays the same?
🙏 Prayer:

Dear Jesus, thank You that You never change, even when our world does. Help us see the good in community changes. Amen.

Coming up: Tomorrow we'll learn how God's love is constant
