Land and Water
Identify different types of landforms
Create 3D models of landforms using play dough
Understand how landforms appear on maps
“God called the dry land Earth, and the gathering together of the waters he called Seas. God saw that it was good.”
— Genesis 1:10 (WEB)God created the beautiful land and water we will explore today
Gather students and show a globe. Ask them to point out land and water. Explain that today we'll create our own landforms using play dough.
Today we will learn about different landforms. Landforms are shapes of land on Earth. Some are tall like mountains, some are flat like plains, and some are low like valleys.
Students will create landforms using play dough on blue paper (representing water).
Simpler: Teacher helps students shape basic landforms
Challenge: Students create more complex landform combinations
Share and discuss the landforms created
Dear God, thank You for creating such wonderful and beautiful land for us to explore.
Coming up: Next week, we'll learn more about how water moves on Earth!
“He laid the foundations of the earth, that it should not be moved forever.”
— Psalm 104:5 (WEB)🎯 Activity: Trace the outline of a mountain while saying the verse
First graders are learning to recognize basic geographic features
Difficulty understanding 3D representation of landforms
Ability to distinguish between different landform types
Great job completing today's lesson!
