Gather children and ask about times they wanted to be mean when someone was unkind to them. Explain today's story is about choosing kindness.

David was hiding from King Saul in a cave. Saul wanted to hurt David, but God protected David. When Saul came into the cave, David's friends said he should hurt Saul. But David only cut a small piece of Saul's robe to show he could have hurt Saul but chose not to.
