Lesson Plan

1Opening (5 min)

Welcome to today's BibleMouse art adventure! Let's remember how we learned about textures last week and now we'll explore how things look near and far.

💭 Review Question: Can you tell me about the different textures we drew yesterday?
2Teaching (12 min)

Today we'll learn about foreground and background - the magic of how artists show what's close and what's far away!

📌 Key Talking Points:
  • Foreground is the part of a picture closest to you
  • Background is the part of the picture farthest away
  • Objects in the foreground look bigger and have more details
💬 Discussion Questions:
  • What do you see in the front of this picture?
  • What do you see way in the back?
3Activity: Front and Back Picture Hunt (14 min)
observation and discussion

Look at landscape pictures and identify foreground and background elements

📝 Instructions:
  1. Spread out the landscape pictures
  2. Point to something in the front of the picture
  3. Point to something in the back of the picture
  4. Draw your own picture with something in front and something in back
🔄 Variations:

Simpler: Use large, clear landscape images with distinct foreground elements

Challenge: Try drawing a landscape with multiple layers of foreground and background

4Closing (3 min)

Let's review what we learned about front and back in pictures!

📝 Review Questions:
  • What is the foreground?
  • What is the background?

Coming up: Tomorrow we'll explore how things look bigger or smaller based on how close they are
